Welcome to a performative reading of Learning/Tid att lära – a short story by Jean-Luc Lagarce, performed by Mathias Westin. This will be the last event at Mint before we close for renovation.

Learning/Tid att lära (L’apprentissage) is a short story by the French playwright Jean-Luc Lagarce (1957–1995), written towards the end of Lagarce’s life in the shadow of the AIDS crisis and the author’s own illness. The story follows a tortured convalescence in a hospital and there are absurdist and existentialist undertones. Mathias Westin, psychologist and translator, presents the text as a soliloquy in a performance reading, examining the transition of Lagarce’s insistent, recursive and torrential language from text to voice.

During his short life, Jean-Luc Lagarce wrote twenty-five plays. After his death, he became one of the most performed contemporary playwrights in France. Mathias Westin has previously translated two plays by Lagarce to Swedish, published by Faethon.

Free admission, no registration required. The event will be held in Swedish.
